Point panels

Clicking on the map opens a side panel for that place. Which panel depends on what you click.

Meteogram

Click anywhere on the map (outside a marker).

  • The coordinates of the point.
  • A strip of weather icons.
  • A four-row chart over the forecast: temperature (°C), precipitation (mm per 3 h, rain and snow), snow (cm), wind (m/s).
  • Times are in local time for the region (e.g. Nepal UTC+5:45). Maps and the date slider stay in UTC days.
  • In Ensemble mode: the median, with a shaded band from P10 to P90.

"No forecast at this point" means the point lies outside the modelled area (e.g. outside the basins or the national border the region is cut to).

The meteogram shows the terrain unit that contains the point. Two clicks a few hundred metres apart on the same slope give the same meteogram.

Station panel

Click a station marker (enable the Stations overlay). If the station has measured data:

  • name and details (elevation, source);
  • tabs for each variable;
  • a chart with Downscaled (the model at the station) and Observed (the measurement);
  • scores such as bias and RMSE.

If a station has no measurements in the board, clicking it opens the meteogram for that place.

SNOWPACK panel

Some regions run a detailed one-dimensional SNOWPACK simulation at selected sites (enable the SNOWPACK sites overlay). Click a site for:

  • a stacked time series: HS snow depth (cm), SWE (mm), temperature, stability, and optionally precipitation and wind;
  • the matching FSM values (the model behind the maps) and observations (black) where they exist;
  • a dashed line where analysis ends and the forecast begins;
  • a Profile slider: the snowpack on a chosen date by height, with hand hardness and temperature.

Stability indices: Sk38 is a skier-triggering index; values below 1 are poor. S4/S5 are structural indices. They are computed for flat ground, not for an avalanche slope. Never use them in place of an avalanche bulletin.
